Sidewalk alcohol policy extended in Downtown Tuscaloosa
You can drink alcohol on Downtown Tuscaloosa sidewalks, using approved cups, on Fridays and Saturdays through January 27.
The Tuscaloosa City Council extended the weekend entertainment district period. They also widened the boundary to include a portion of The Riverwalk.
4,000 cups were sold by downtown merchants during a four weekend trial run.
Dan Robinson, owner of Cravings downtown, created the policy.
"We feel good that 4,000 went out with one big home game. The other one wasn't a big crowd. We feel pretty confident. We have three big home games coming up so we fully expect over the next month that 7,500 to 10,000 cups will go out," Robinson predicted.
Cups are only sold from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
If the next four months run smoothly, Robinson plans to ask for a year-round policy.
