Suspect charged in home invasion of 96-year-old

(Tuscaloosa Police)

A Decatur man is facing charges after a home invasion left a 96-year-old tied up and left in a closet on Mother's Day.

Tuscaloosa Police say a tip Thursday led investigators to believe the same suspect committed a robbery on May 15 on E Hargrove Road. Authorities say the suspect, Joe Lewis Williams, placed a sharp object against a 62-year-old and stole her purse in the robbery.

Investigators gathered information from both scenes and took Williams, 52, into custody Thursday and charged him with burglary, robbery and kidnapping. He is being held on $150,000 bond.

Williams was released from prison in January and is on parole for a robbery that happened in Jefferson County.
