Suspect in custody following Homewood police chase

A man is in custody after Homewood Police say he led authorities on a chase Tuesday before crashing at an intersection.

Around 11:15 a.m., Homewood Police attempted to pullover a vehicle with a switched tag. The driver refused and a brief chase began. During the pursuit the suspect crashed into another car at the intersection of Columbiana Road and Green Springs Hwy.

Police say the man ran from the crash scene and entered the Wash & Go Coin Laundry, next to the Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market. There authorities say the man attempted to grab the attendant and take her to the back. Officers were already in the area of the store and were able to take him into custody without further incident.

Officers say the car was stolen out of Birmingham.
