The Lovelady Center to begin taking inmates from the Julia Tutwiler Prison for Women
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. —
ABC 33/40 confirmed the Lovelady Center in Birmingham will take in more than 100 inmates from the Julia Tutwiler Prison for Women. The prison is closing.
The women start arriving this week, according to an email to donors, obtained by ABC 33/40. The Lovelady Center will take 30 women each week for several weeks. The Lovelady Center rehabilitates women who've been incarcerated by providing housing, transportation and help with job searches.
It's asking for donations in order to be able to help the women, including sheets, personal hygiene items and study bibles. You can see the list here.
