A loaded revolver was found at Birmingham International Airport (BHM) checkpoint Monday morning.

Around 5 a.m., TSA found a Smith and Wesson .38 in a passenger's carry-on bag.

TSA reiterates that it is important to extensively search your bags for any potential dangerous weapons or other prohibited items prior to arriving at the airport.

This marks the 48th firearm found at the airport so far this year, three more than all of last year.

Firearms can be transported in checked baggage if they are declared to the airline and in proper casing.
