Tuscaloosa woman struck in head with hammer outside grocery store; suspect arrested

Reginald Lee Aaron, 26, has been charged with two counts of robbery with further charges pending (Tuscaloosa Police)

A Tuscaloosa woman, who was attacked outside a grocery store with a hammer, is recovering at home Tuesday night.

According to TPD, 53-year-old Tammy Hagood was loading groceries outside the Five Points Winn-Dixie Monday. The store is located on University Boulevard East towards Brookwood.

Police said a man approached Hagood and grabbed her purse.

Hagood refused to let go of her belongings and the suspect hit her in the head with a hammer.

A customer at Winn-Dixie calls the crime ridiculous and said she shops in groups to better protect herself.

"It's safer in groups. If something does happen and you are being attacked you have someone who can dial 9-1-1," said Winn-Dixie customer Chaunte Henley.

TPD said the victim was treated for an injury near her eye.

After piecing together evidence involving a string of several robberies, Tuscaloosa PD determined the robber was the same suspect who committed the hammer attack.

Investigators arrested and charged 36-year-old Reginald Lee Aaron, of Tuscaloosa, with two counts of robbery. Aaron's total bond is $120,000. Police say further charges are pending at a later date.
