A man and a woman have been charged with capital murder and burglary in a Birmingham couple's August 2 slaying.

Police officers said a bloodstained three-year-old led them to a double homicide inside a home at 8720 9th Court Circle South. Police had been in the area responding to a report of a child wandering around alone.

The victims were identified as 67-year-old Mary Holt and 68-year-old Joe Holt. Kristen Leigh Gullion, 30, of Cullman, and Zachary Taylor Phillips, 23, of Arab are now facing capital murder charges in their deaths.

Miami Beach Police arrested Gullion, of Cullman, on August 10 on outstanding warrants. At the time of her arrest, Gullion was driving the 2012 Honda Civic that belonged to the slain couple, prompting Birmingham Police investigators' involvement. Later that day the Hollywood, Florida Police Department has announced that Phillips was arrested after a vehicle and foot chase.

Neighbors told ABC 33/40's Lauren Walsh they recognized Gullion and Phillips. The pair lived for two or three weeks in a former halfway house, located just across the street from the Holt's home, they said.

Both suspects are detained in Florida on unrelated felony charges but will eventually be transferred to Birmingham.
