SPRINGFIELD, Ga. (KUTV) - Georgia police are trying to figure out how two teenagers went missing without anyone reporting their disappearance until it was too late.
According to a Facebook post by the Effingham County Sheriff's Office, they received a tip at approximately 10 p.m. on Dec. 21 about 14-year-old Mary Crocker who was "feared dead."
When officers questioned the Crocker family, they told police the teen had gone to live with her mother.
However, police didn't believe the story, as each family member gave conflicting information, the Facebook post stated.
Police interviewed the teen's father, Elwyn Crocker who turned 49 on Christmas and recently played Santa at a Georgia Walmart, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. What he said led them to search the land around the home.
Two bodies were discovered on the property.
An autopsy is required to make an exact identification, but police believe the bodies are those of Mary and her brother, 14-year-old Elwyn Crocker Jr.
Mary has been missing since October and Elwyn Jr. had not been seen since November 2016, police reported.
Neither child had ever had an official missing report filed.
A third child was found in the Crocker home and is at a Georgia hospital for observation, police say.
The children's father, 49-year-old Elwyn Crocker, the children's stepmother, 33-year-old Candice Crocker and their step-grandmother, 50-year-old Kim Wright, have each been charged with concealing the death of another and cruelty to children in the first degree.
The sheriff's office is still investigating.
