HIRAM, Ga. (AP) -- Authorities say a gunman killed a neighbor and wounded two other people before barricading himself inside of a home in northwestern Georgia for about five hours.
WXIA reports (http://on.11alive.com/29p6S5m) that the standoff with authorities ended when the gunman was found in his backyard, dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Paulding County Sheriff's deputy Donny Pace says the shooter was known to law enforcement and had previously "made threats toward law enforcement."
Authorities say when a deputy initially responded to the shooting around 5 p.m. Tuesday, the gunman fired at the deputy, who was not hurt.
Residents in the area were evacuated during the standoff.
