Opry Mills Mall shooting victim's girlfriend arrested with 2 stolen guns in purse
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) - Metro Nashville Police have charged a 21-year-old woman with two counts of theft and possession of a weapon in connection to Thursday's deadly Opry Mills Mall shooting.
Police have arrested Alexandria Lavender on the charges. Lavender's charges are connected to the case against alleged shooter Justin Golson's arrest for criminal homicide after shooting DeMarco Churchwell. According to police records, Lavender was girlfriend to the victim. Upon arriving on scene, police say Lavender was slow to stop for questioning. A witness then reported seeing a handgun in Lavender's purse.
Police searched the purse and found a loaded Glock handgun. According to the arrest affidavits, another loaded SCCY CPX 9mm handgun was found in the purse. The guns were found to be stolen this year out of Dickson and Davidson County. Police add Lavender did not have a valid carry permit.
Golson is accused of entering into a dispute with Churchwell at the mall when he produced a stolen Ruger .380 handgun and shot Churchwell in the neck. Police say Golson admitted to the shooting.
