Few people have as much behind the scenes power and influence in politics as billionaire investor George Soros. The 92-year-old confirmed this past weekend he is passing the torch to one of his younger sons, 37-year-old Alex Soros.

"You know liberals like to talk about the Koch Brothers or Sheldon Adelson, [but] Soros has outspent both of them," explained Matt Palumbo author of "The Man Behind the Curtain," a book on Soros' influence. "And just with sheer connections within an administration, there is no comparison."

In 2020, Forbes magazine called George Soros the "most generous giver" in terms of net wealth when ranked against the 400 top Forbes billionaires.

The pair sat down for an interview with the Wall Street Journal Sunday to discuss the news. The elder Soros signaled his decision-making by saying "we think alike,” in reference to Alex. His son did add “I’m more political.”

He is much more comfortable with being out there publicly," said Palumbo. "His father would always stay kinda behind the shadows. He wouldn’t often be photographed with people. With his son, you go on his Instagram and every single day it’s a different politician.

Alex Soros visited the White House at least 17 times since 2021 according to reviews of visitor logs.

His Instagram is filled with photos of recent meetings with top Democrats like Kamala Harris,Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi as well as foreign leaders like France’s Emmanuel Macron and Canada’s Justin Trudeau.

George Soros is often criticized for his role in pushing Democrats further left on issues like criminal justice reform: he poured millions into helping elect a slew of progressive prosecutors critics call “soft-on-crime.”

In Wall Street Journal interview, Alex described himself as a "center-leftist," saying Democrats need to be “more patriotic and inclusive” going forward, adding “just because someone votes Trump doesn’t mean they’re lost or racist.

Palumbo says he's skeptical of the comments arguing Alex Soros understands the importance of optics and that he's likely more progressive than the father.

Alex Soros hinted the Soros organization will donate heavily in 2024, telling the Journal he’s concerned about Donald Trump and he wants to expand the issues they back to include gender equity and abortion rights.
