STAFFORD, Va. (ABC7) — A Stafford hair salon is currently facing backlash after salon employees were accused of mocking a 10-year-old girl battling Stage 4 cancer.
The incident, which occurred on Saturday, was brought to attention by the 10-year-old girl's aunt who posted on Facebook about the situation. In the original Facebook post, which has been removed, the aunt states the 10-year-old girl and her mother went to the salon for a special evening of celebration. However, the evening of celebration quickly turned into an evening of humiliation.
According to the child's aunt, the nail technicians in the salon continued to mock the 10-year-old girl -- stating that "the nail techs in this salon kept telling her she looked like a boy the entire time."
The 10-year-old has spent most of this year battling Stage 4 cancer and is currently in remission, with her hair beginning to grow back fully.
The girl's mother addressed the incident with the salon's management, but their response was "underwhelming" according to the aunt via Facebook. Several people in the Stafford area flooded social media, leaving scolding reviews on both the salon's Facebook page and Yelp.
The owners of Imperial Salon & Day Spa acknowledged the incident and addressed an apology on behalf of the salon, stating:
We have handled this very sensitive matter. We do not now or ever support any of our employees making comments to any of our amazing clients. We value each and everyone who walks into our spa. We as owners of imperial salon and day spa would personally like to issue the below statement to the family:
We deeply apologize that this has happened. We would love to meet with you and your daughter to formally apologize. Your daughter and any other cancer survivor and fighter have our complete support. This matter breaks our hearts as a business and as parents ourselves. We know that offering any package would never be enough to make up for this sad situation but, would love to offer a package for your little girl and family. We as owners would love to show you that this one incident is not what our spa or company is about. Please allow us to have an opportunity to show you that our company is better than this.

ABC7 reached out to the 10-year-old's aunt, the original owner of the Facebook post, for comments but have not heard back yet.
