Auburn's Butch Thompson has Tiger's trust
AUBURN, Ala. —
The first rule in sales is: keep it simple.
The same phrase applies to Auburn baseball coach Butch Thompson.
Last week, the Tigers and Thompson agreed to a six-year contract extension, that runs through the 2024 season.
He's been at Auburn for three seasons, and the Tigers have improved every year. In 2017, Auburn was one win away from advancing to Super Regional. In 2018, the Tigers were a win away from the College World Series.
"I think we can go to Omaha this year," pitcher Tanner Burns said. "Having someone like (Thompson) really shows you that he cares about us. When I was getting recruited out of high school, most head coaches really didn't recruit me. That says a lot about him--he recruits. And that's why he's in his situation today."
Burns was one of four Tigers players to earn freshman All-American honors last season.
