Samford wins series with Wofford, takes over 2nd in SoCon

Samford takes two of three from Wofford to pick up an important conference win (

Samford jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead on Sunday and held off Wofford for a 5-4 victory and a series win over the Terriers.

The Bulldogs got clutch hits from Brooks Carlson, Anthony Mulrine and Connor Burns in the 1st inning. Carlson started the scoring with an RBI single to center to drive in Branden Fryman. One batter later the Bulldogs add another when Mulrine rips an RBI double off the left field wall. Burns follows with a single to drive in Mulrine and give Samford a 3-0 lead.

The Bulldogs add single runs in the 4th inning and 5th inning and hold off Wofford.

Samford and Wofford split the first two games of the series, with the Bulldogs winning 4-2 on Friday and the Terriers picking up a 6-4 win in extra innings on Saturday.

Samford improves to 27-22 (12-6 in the Southern Conference) and Wofford is now 31-18 (11-7).
