WATCH: Samford sweeps Mercer, win streak reaches 13
Samford's pitching played the starring role, silencing the top hitting team in the Southern Conference.
The Bulldogs swept Mercer to run their winning streak to 13 games, the best stretch for the program since 1959 and the third longest active winning streak in the nation.
Mercer entered the weekend leading the SoCon with a .317 team batting average, but managed just one run in three games. Samford pitchers had a combined ERA of 0.33 in the series. Starters Cody Shelton, Samuel Strickland and Erin Baldwin allowed one run in 18.2 innings pitched.
The Bulldogs (23-14, 10-2 in Southern Conference) play Alabama at Sewell-Thomas Stadium on Tuesday. First pitch is 6 p.m.
