Tide commit Jayson Jones has impressive "player comparison"

Calera's Jayson Jones took care of business early, and commits to coach Nick Saban and Alabama before the start of his junior year.

"Nick Saban was really happy about it," Jones said. "He told me that he wanted me to come to Alabama and that kind of shocked me. I'm like WOW. The head coach of the school that I've always been a fan of just told me that he wants me to come to Alabama. So that was a shocker."

The Eagles defensive tackle is rated as the top prospect in Alabama in the Class of 2020, according to 247Sports.com.

Jones says Alabama coaches compare his body-type and size to current Tide defensive tackle Raekwon Davis.

"I watched his college highlights from last year and I can see where I kind of fit in that," Jones said. "It's kind of exciting because you have a chance to become something at a school that you want to be at. It's exciting."

Jones says Davis has become mentor to him during recruiting visits to campus. He says Davis makes it a point to spend time with him.

The 16 year old Jones is listed at 6-foot-4 and 335 pounds. That is actually down from last season, when his playing-weight was 370. Jones hopes being lighter allows him to stay on the field longer in 2018.
